Written by the architect Mike Jenner and illustrated with over 150 photographs, mostly by Stephen Morris, this volume aims to give an appreciation and understanding of ‘the classical street-building tradition as exemplified in Bath’. Jenner sketches the city’s history prior to 1700, then discusses its transformation into a fashionable spa, examining the contributions of architects, notably John Wood and Robert Adam, and the dictates of fashion and finance behind changing architectural style.
