A Collection of Ukrainian Plays Published in America & the Ukraine, 1918-29

A collection of 11 Ukrainian plays in original wrappers, dating from 1918-29. The three earliest plays were published in New York City (1918) and Jersey City, N.J. (1918 and 1919); two were published in Winnipeg, Manitoba; and the other six in the Ukraine (Lviv and Odessa). A few have ownership ink stamps which suggest that all 11 plays may once have belonged to the Russian National Mutual Aid Society of America and the Russian Educational Society, both located at Chelsea, Massachusetts. Three plays, including the New York imprint, have illustrated wrappers, and the 1918 Jersey City imprint is sewn into a custom-made outer leather covering. A rudimentary transcription of the Cyrillic script indicates the author of some plays along with place of publication, etc. (indicated in quotation marks in the list below). A few have light contemporary notes and possible owner name in pencil or ink, good or better overall. An unusual collection of scarce Ukrainian and Ukrainian-American imprints.
