Beautiful binding and unfortunately both covers (present) are detached. The SIGNED binding was executed by "WORSFOLD", 3/4 crushed green morocco and marbled boards. Spine with 5 bands and 6 compartments. Compartments as follows: 1. Gold Stamped Fishing Creel, 2. Title stamped in gold, 3. Walton and Cotton, 4. Gold stamped fish and net, 5. Gold stamped Fly, 6. Gold Stamped Fishing Creel, with the date 1808 stamped in gold at the bottom. Note: There are also 4 gold-stamped fish in each compartment (one in each corner) except for the two compartments with the title and authors name. This book would be worth it to have the covers reattached as it really is a beautiful binding. Facing last page (512) is a typeset printed list of plates to the Seventh Edition of the Complete Angler pasted on the blank free endpaper. The contents are CLEAN, TIGHT, AND COMPLETE. 36 Plates with 43 Illustrations/engravings, Pages uncut, a few unopened, top page edges gilt (TEG).GOLD, THIS IS A BINDING WORTH SAVING! Profusely illustrated throughout with 76 decorations within the text, vignettes, head-pieces and tail-pieces, and with 15 full page engraved plates in black and white of scenes and fishing and of music. 8vo, bound in three-quarter green morocco over cloth covered boards, the spine with raised bands, gilt ruled panels within the compartments are tooled with fishing motifs in gilt at the centers, lettered in gilt in two compartments, top edge gilt. [xxvi], lxxii, 396 pp. A fine and handsome copy, the binding is strong, the text-block and illustrations are clean and well preserved, light mellowing to the green of the spine panel as is typical with the colour. Very good+ in full medium brown diced calf with a professional reback of the spine upon which has been placed a gilt on red leather spine label and gilt tooling. The front and rear boards have contemporary diced leather within a gilt double border. The end sheets are contemporary marbled paper. A small octavo measuring 7 5/8 by 4 5/8 inches lacking the 1/2 title page as is typical with this title. The tips of both boards have been bumped with the leather worn through to the underlying material. Part I of the book contains The Life of Mr. Isaac Walton in lxxvi (76) pages followed by Walton's The Complete Angler containing 262 pages, a page of explanation and three plates of illustrations as well as two music plates facing pages 204 and 262. Part II of the book contains Some Account of the Life and Writings of Charles Cotton, Esq. xxxii (32) pages; followed by Part II of The Complete Angler of 111 pages after which is an index.
