Print on Demand. This book proposes a theory that the Iliad of Homer was originally composed in sections of 300 verses, to assist the memory of the ancient poets (called rhapsodes) who performed the work. The author demonstrates by careful analysis of the Iliad's structure that interpolated passages appear to disrupt the 300-verse format and contain internal evidence such as repetitions and inconsistencies that suggest they were additions to the original text. The author also proposes that these interpolated passages often include folktales or legends not directly relevant to the main narrative.
