Confabulation: The Lies We Tell

A Short Story

What happens when the stories we invent to survive begin to replace the truth?

Ace, a once-ordinary writer turned reluctant celebrity, meets his old friend Tex in a coffee shop filled with flavors that mirror the states of the human soul-whining, rambling, calm-infusion. Between sips and silences, Ace revisits his past: a failed love, a bestselling book, and the delicate art of turning heartbreak into narrative.

But as the conversation unfolds, the line between confession and invention begins to blur. Did he really live the story he wrote-or just write it to live? Beneath the aroma of burnt grounds and old regrets, the reader is drawn into a dizzying game of memory, meaning, and make-believe.

A tragicomic reflection on love, fame, and the fictions that sustain us, Confabulation: The Lies We Tell dissects the storyteller's mind with biting humor and quiet melancholy. It's a story about the lies that comfort us, the truths we avoid, and the blurred territory where all human memory begins to sound like art.
