Paperback. "The Confessions of a Puzzled Parson, and Other Pleas for Reality" is an insightful and candid collection of essays exploring the intersection of modern society and the Christian faith. Written with remarkable honesty, this work addresses the internal and external challenges faced by the clergy during a period of significant social change. Bishop Charles Fiske moves beyond ecclesiastical formality to offer a series of reflections on the necessity of sincerity, the dangers of religious commercialism, and the quest for a genuine spiritual life in an increasingly complex world. The book serves as both a personal meditation and a broader social critique, urging a return to spiritual "reality" over the superficial trappings of institutional religion. Fiske discusses the parson's role in contemporary life, the struggle to maintain faith amidst doubt, and the importance of making the church relevant to the everyday experiences of its members. His prose is marked by wit, humility, and a deep-seated concern for the integrity of the Christian message.A valuable historical document of early 20th-century religious thought, "The Confessions of a Puzzled Parson, and Other Pleas for Reality" continues to resonate with anyone interested in the honest pursuit of faith and the enduring questions of clerical life. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
