About the Documents
The Declaration of Independence was adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, and announced the thirteen American colonies’ decision to separate from Great Britain. The Articles of Confederation served as the first constitution of the United States. Major events during his presidency include the Louisiana Purchase (1803) and the Lewis and Clark Expedition (1804-1806)
