Fine condition in original paper wrappers.__+__ The Supernova Cosmology Project, led by Saul Perlmutter, was one of the two teams that discovered that the universe expansion is accelerating. By observing distant, ancient exploding stars, physicists and astronomers at the U.S. Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and elsewhere have determined that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate -- an observation that implies the existence of a mysterious, self-repelling property of space first proposed by Albert Einstein, which he called the cosmological constant. This extraordinary finding has been named Science magazine's "Breakthrough of the Year for 1998."--Science Magazine, Dec 17, 1998 __+__ The Nobel Prize in Physics 2011 was divided, one half awarded to Saul Perlmutter, the other half jointly to Brian P. Schmidt and Adam G. Riess "for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae." This is the third paper by the Supernova Cosmology Project confirming their earlier claim that the expansion of the universe is accelerating and discussing the causes.
