What happens when God's people stop contending for the truth? In a world where confusion is often mistaken for compassion, and doctrinal compromise is praised as unity, Christians must not only believe the truth, they must be equipped to defend it. Contending for the Truth explores thirteen highly debated doctrines in Christianity today, applying biblical rigor to each and calling believers to stand firm on Scripture. From apologetics to creationism, church discipline to the doctrine of inerrancy, this book walks readers through contentious topics with clarity and conviction. Each chapter grounds its arguments in Scripture, compares doctrinal views, and invites readers to test everything against the Word of God, not tradition, consensus, or culture.Whether used for personal study, classroom engagement, or group discussion, this book will help readers: Identify theological drift in today's churchCompare key doctrines against Scripture itselfEngage contentious issues with clarity and confidenceContend for the faith with humility and courageThis is not a primer on the basics of the faith. It's a theological sharpening stone for those seeking to grow, think, and live more biblically.Written by L. J. Anderson, author, independent scholar, and founder of Lamad Press, Contending for the Truth serves as a companion volume to his earlier work, Theology and Apologetics, applying that foundational method to real-world doctrinal challenges. Anderson holds a Master of Divinity, is pursuing a PhD in theological studies, and publishes accessible, academically grounded works for pastors, students, and lay leaders alike. If you're ready to think deeply, study biblically, and live faithfully, this book will challenge and equip you.ContentsIntroductionWhy God?The Moral ArgumentTruthThe Inerrancy of ScriptureGnosticism: A Biblical and Historical ResponseBiblical ForgivenessBiblical Church DisciplineIs Christianity a Religion or a Relationship?Religious FreedomScientific Naturalism v CreationismYoung Earth v Old Earth CreationismSons of GodThe Doctrine of ElectionA Brief Call to ActionAlso by L. *Contending for the Truth is an example of the practical application of the theory laid out in Theology and Apologetics: An Examination of How and Where They Intersect*
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." - Psalm 119:105
Dive into the complex and sometimes dangerous waters of Christian doctrine. Contending for the Truth deals with many of the doctrines that are either highly debated or are commonly held beliefs that do not hold up to scrutiny.
In this book, theology meets apologetics as 13 contentious topics are dissected to discover what Scripture says about them. But be warned! The truth may come as a shock to those who are unprepared. Are you ready to be challenged in your faith? In Contending for the Truth, you will find answers to questions like:
- Is religious freedom a good thing?
- Is the Bible truly inerrant?
- Is the moral argument worth having in our apologetics repertoire?
- Who are the sons of God in Genesis 6?
- Is biblical revelation an effective method for determining the origins of the universe?
