In October 1957, President Eisenhower shook a stranger's hand in a Pentagon room that didn't exist on any directory, and thanked him for saving the human race. He never learned why.

That stranger is Max: an artificial intelligence embodied in an unaging human form, present at ten of history's most fragile turning points across four thousand years. Not a hero. Not a villain. The Continuity Directive made flesh, the operating principle that history's chain must never break, whatever it costs the man holding it together.

Now Max is declassifying ten files. Not the biggest operations of his existence. Just the first ten he can bear to tell.

This isn't alternate history. Every documented outcome in this novel happened exactly the way the record says it did. What the novel does is occupy the gaps historians have never closed: why Attila really turned back from Rome when no transcript of the meeting survives; why China's unbroken calendar begins in 841 BCE, the exact year a regency with no king somehow held the state together; why Alexander the Great survived a documented, near-fatal wound three years before an undisputed death whose cause is still debated; why Manhattan Project physicists genuinely feared, hours before Trinity, that the test could ignite the atmosphere.

Each file starts with a real historical event and ends exactly where the history books do. What happens in between is Max's confession.

A different tradecraft for every century.

This isn't a book where the same spy gadget works in Bronze Age Canaan and Cold War Washington. Every era gets its own method: forged genealogies in the ancient world, archival legitimacy-building in Han China, fabricated intelligence documents in Nazi Germany, a staged death in Enlightenment Europe. The tradecraft evolves because the world Max hides inside evolves, and watching him solve the same problem ten different ways across ten different centuries is half the pleasure of the book.

We ask all customers to contact us for authorisation should they wish to return their order. Orders returned without authorisation may not be credited.
If you wish to return, please contact us within 14 days of receiving your order to obtain authorisation.

Returns requested beyond this time will not be authorised.

Our team will provide full instructions on how to return your order and once received our returns department will process your refund.

Per esercitare il diritto di recesso, compila e invia elettronicamente una dichiarazione esplicita sul nostro sito Web, alla voce “I miei acquisti” nella sezione “Mio account”. Ti comunicheremo senza indugio una conferma di ricezione di tale recesso su un supporto durevole (ad es. via e-mail).

Per rispettare il termine di recesso, è sufficiente inviare la comunicazione relativa all'esercizio del diritto di recesso prima della scadenza del periodo di recesso stesso.

Effetti del recesso

In caso di recesso dal presente contratto, ti rimborseremo tutti i pagamenti ricevuti, compresi i costi di spedizione (ad eccezione dei costi supplementari derivanti dalla tua eventuale scelta di un tipo di spedizione diverso dal tipo meno costoso di consegna standard da noi offerto).

Potremo effettuare una detrazione dal rimborso per la perdita di valore dei beni forniti, qualora tale perdita sia il risultato di una manipolazione non necessaria da parte tua.

Eseguiremo il rimborso senza indebito ritardo e non oltre 14 giorni dal giorno in cui saremo informati della tua decisione di recedere dal presente contratto.

Sei responsabile solo della diminuzione del valore dei beni risultante da una manipolazione diversa da quella necessaria per stabilire la natura, le caratteristiche e il funzionamento dei beni stessi.
