Neuware - 'Crime and Punishment in Germany' provides a comprehensive historical survey of the evolution of the legal system and judicial practices in German territories. Written by historian Malcolm Letts, this work examines the development of criminal law from the late Middle Ages through the early modern era, offering a detailed look at how society identified, prosecuted, and punished wrongdoing. The study delves into the intricacies of historical legal codes, the administration of justice in various principalities, and the specific methods of punishment employed throughout the centuries. Letts explores the use of torture in judicial proceedings, the role of public executions, and the shifting attitudes toward rehabilitation and retribution.
