- Libro 5 di 14: Tarot Fantasies
She drew Death and found the man she lost waiting on the other side.
Baylin has built a whole life around not being ready. Every morning, she wakes before dawn and goes to Knead the Dough, where she folds grief into sourdough and fills lemon croissants like she can turn memory into something useful. The croissants were Shae’s favorite. Now she makes them every day, a tiny edible shrine to the man she was supposed to marry.
Six months ago, Shae died and Baylin did not. Some days, that feels like the crueler fate. She still works. She still pays bills. She still answers when people speak to her. But she no longer hosts her late-night radio show, Dead Air. She no longer walks past the coffee shop that remembers both their orders. She no longer trusts music, birthdays, or silence.
Then Dorothea, her boss and best friend, does the unforgivable.
She sends Baylin to The Arcane Room. Inside the strange tarot shop, Baylin draws Death, a card of endings, transformation, and the door that only opens when the old life is already gone.
Baylin hates the card immediately. Death already came for her. But the card is not asking whether Shae is gone. It is asking what Baylin is willing to become now that love has changed form.
One cup of tea later, Baylin wakes in a kitchen made of memory and magic, surrounded by lemon croissants, radio static, impossible light, and the one voice she would have given anything to hear again.
Shae.
Together, they move through the rooms of their unfinished life: the bakery, the radio booth, the wedding that never happened, the sister Baylin lost before Shae, the guilt she has mistaken for devotion, and the future she has been too afraid to imagine.
But The Death card is not cruel. It's honest. And it won't let Baylin confuse the grave for an altar forever.
Death’s Embrace is an emotional, gothic Tarot Fantasies stand alone featuring magical tarot doors, grief after the loss of a fiancé, a beloved bakery, a haunted radio show, an impossible reunion, found family, bittersweet romance, and the kind of transformation that does not erase love, but teaches it how to survive.
Welcome to Tarot Fantasies, where one card can grant your deepest wish, but every wish asks for the truth you are most afraid to face.
Edition Note: This book was originally published in a much shorter form and has been substantially revised and expanded into a full-length novel, with significant new material throughout. Readers who previously purchased the original Kindle edition may check their Kindle library or Amazon’s “Manage Your Content and Devices” page for available updates. Readers who prefer the original short-story version can still find it in the paperback collection, "Tarot Fantasies Books 5–8."
