To the Private Military, she was a problem to be hunted. To the dead, she is prey. They are both about to learn their mistake.

Daisy is back, but the girl who climbed for the truth is gone. In her place is a woman forged in the fires of betrayal. Pursued by a high-tech private army intent on crushing her spirit, Daisy must navigate a world where the living are far more sadistic than the dead.

As she discovers the heights of love and the depths of lust, the cost of her heart is paid in blood. Every step toward growth is met with a new trauma inflicted by her pursuers. But you can only drag someone into the darkness so many times before they learn to see in the dark.

They wanted a war. In Daisy, they finally found one they can't win.

5* I had adulting I was supposed to do, but instead, I sat down and binge-read this book. The dishes aren’t washed. The bills aren’t paid. The floors aren’t cleaned. But once I started, NOTHING COULD STOP ME!

DEEP: THE EMBERS OF LIFE is a breathtaking addition to an unputdownable series. We find our main character, Daisy, at a pivotal, coming-of-age point in her life. She gains agency in this book, takes control of her fate, and becomes someone not to be messed with.

Aggett has a gift for action sequences and striking, carnal descriptions. This sequel has a survivalist vibe bracketed with brief pockets of normalcy, around which all hell breaks loose again and again and again. It reminded me of a more mature version of the novel HATCHET by Gary Paulsen. Fans of The Walking Dead, World War Z, Stranger Things, and Revolution will feast on this gritty, gutsy adventure.

I LOVED this quote: “Those who fight monsters inevitably become one.”
