Excerpt from A Dictionary of the Coal Tar Colours
The writer considered that a work of the nature of a dictionary giving brief descriptions of each coal tar colour would fill the want indicated, hence the appearance of this volume. No systematic account of the process of manufacture, or chemical relationships of the colours, has been attempted, but, as far as it has been possible to obtain the information, the chemical composition, formula, method of making, date of introduction, literature relating to it, and its discoverer have been given, while the properties and uses of the colours have had special attention paid to them.
