The second digest of laws for the state of Alabama, after the 1823 digest compiled by Judge Harry Toulmin. For this edition, John Gaston Aikin, a Yale-educated lawyer practicing in Tuscaloosa and Mobile, was tasked by the general assembly with compiling the laws in 1832. The book was later reprinted in 1836, adding a supplement. To be expected, there are a handful of laws pertaining to relations with the local Indians, and laws governing Indian territory, and numerous laws relating to slavery, runaway slaves, and the slave trade.
