First published in 1797, this was a popular anti-tobacco tract which was also reprinted in editions of 1798, 1805, as well as this last lifetime London edition (a New York edition appeared in 1829). "Fairholt notices that DISSERTATION 'was one of the bitterest attacks on the habit, and becme the textbook of the oppositionists'" (Brooks, Arents Catalogue).
