Paperback. "Is There a Doctor in the House" is a sharp and whimsical satirical work by the legendary cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg. In this collection of humorous observations and illustrations, Goldberg turns his iconic wit toward the medical profession and the various health obsessions of the early twentieth century. Through a series of clever vignettes and his signature intricate line drawings, he explores the absurdities of the patient-doctor relationship, the rise of fad diets, and the universal experience of physical ailments. Goldberg's unique perspective transforms common medical anxieties into comedic gold, offering readers a playful critique of a society increasingly preoccupied with wellness and professional advice. The book showcases his ability to find humor in the mundane and the complex alike, making it a timeless piece of social commentary. Whether he is skewering the bedside manner of specialists or the peculiar remedies of the era, Goldberg remains a master of visual and textual storytelling. "Is There a Doctor in the House" stands as a delightful example of Goldberg's contribution to American humor, blending wit and artistic ingenuity to diagnose the eccentricities of human nature. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
