Elizabeth Smith is an ambitious college student whose life revolves around friends, family, and mock trial. She participates in mock trial club with her best friend, Stephanie, and when she meets a boy in the club named Dean, she thinks she's met her perfect match. They spend sophomore year together and fall madly in love when, suddenly, Dean breaks up with her! Liz turns to Stephanie for comfort, but then Stephanie breaks up with her, too!

Crushed, Liz has to rebuild her world from scratch. After she meets a girl named Ellen, who introduces her to her friend Lizzie, the two quickly become her best friends. With a renewed sense of self and determination, she rules the courtroom on her own in a way that she could never have done just following Stephanie's lead. Who knows, her double breakup may just turn out to be a double blessing in disguise!
