Neuware - 'Up and Down Stream' is the compelling autobiography of Harry Gosling, a pivotal figure in the British labor movement and a dedicated servant of the River Thames. The narrative traces Gosling's journey from his early days as an apprentice waterman to his influential role as a Member of Parliament and a leader in the trade union movement. Gosling provides an intimate look at the lives of the watermen and lightermen who navigated the bustling waters of the Thames, capturing the unique culture and challenges of the river community. The book delves into the struggles and triumphs of early 20th-century unionism, offering a firsthand account of the strikes and negotiations that shaped workers' rights in Great Britain. With a blend of personal anecdotes and political insight, 'Up and Down Stream' serves as both a historical record and a tribute to the working-class spirit. It is an essential read for those interested in maritime history, the evolution of the Labour Party, and the social history of London's iconic river. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
