Dry Ice is a fictional account of an incident provoking an extreme reaction in an already fanatical group of people. In a land where over five thousand innocent people disappeared in one year and the Argentinian Junta ruled supreme, arrogance distorts the truth and anything can happen. As the action unfolds, the central characters are overtaken by events which they could never have foreseen. These events have become part of the history of the Falklands War, but does anyone know the truth behind them and the real reason for conflict? The author was there at the time and even he doesn't know.
Recensione:
Book review 19/05/2010 by Paige Carter. Writers Club. Dry Ice by Fred Clark. Completely chilling story. (forgive the pun-it wasn't intentional) A strange thing happened as I was reading Dry Ice. I became so intrigued and worried about what was happening on the ship, that I (almost) stopped seeing anything other than the story. Obviously tells me the author is a good story teller who creates emotion and very believable scenes. I think this gets better and better. I'm not at all clued up on politics, which I suspect is the basis of this book, but I would like to read more from the same stable. Paige Carter. --The Writers Club
DRY ICE by FRED CLARK. To me, an avid reader, the definition of a good book is one that when one has picked the book up and started to read it is very difficult to put down. Having been gently persuaded (notwithatanding the occassional knee to the groin) I purchased a copy of DRY ICE direct from the author. It was a descision for I was grateful for it turned out to be a cracking read. The build-up of the plot was well executed and kept me interested virtually from the word go. As with all novels, especially of this genre, one tries to envisage just how a plan will unfold and whom the main protagonists are, only to have ones ideas dashed by plot and counter-plot. The action in DRY ICE was such that the twists and turns in the story kept me guessing as to what was going to happen next and to the eventual conclusion of the whole scenario. As Fred himself says, the Falklands Conflict did happen and whilst he was present at the time he does not know the true reason for it, maybe this book goes a little way towards finding that true reason.
