woodcut f/piece of title+vii+52 plates on 33 pp. ex-pagination, 9 text figs inc. 6 tail-pieces (all ills. are woodcuts); prev.owner's small gilt label top front pastedown, endpapers browned, otherwise internally clean, tight & unmarked, but one double-leaf plate gathering detached (should be easy to refix, but outer edge a little rubbed), top edge dust-darkened in places Grey board covers are generally clean but surface and edge rubbed a with top two thirds of back heavily browning and top + outer edge front more lightly so, blue cloth spine dull, top end rubbed, slightly nicked at sides, small white mark towards bottom, back joint cloth splitting in places but not opening. Clearly a working/reference copy only of this quite scarce work, one of Elliot Smith's most ambitious expositions of his diffusionist thesis.
