Written for those who are determined to work actively on elementary topology, this provides a detailed introduction to general topology and algebraic topology through classical and elementary studies centered at the notions of fundamental group in covering space. In studies essential to a wide variety of disciplines, this covers core material interspersed with examples, training problems, and discussions. The authors address general topology, including structures and spaces, continuity, topological properties, topological constructions, and topical algebra. They also address elements of algebraic topology, including fundamental groups, covering spaces and calculation of fundamental groups, fundamental group and maps, and cellular techniques. Includes hints, advice, solutions, and answers for the exercises and a bibliography. Annotation ©2008 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
