Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

1830 & 1831. Two uniformly boud volumes. Second editions. ix, 530pp.; xii, 525pp. plus a 1 page list of other works by the author. John Hind (1796-1866) was an English mathematician. In 1819 he was chosen Taylor mathematical lecturer and fellow-commoner (B.A.) of Sidney Sussex College. In 1821 he proceeded M.A., and took orders; was elected fellow in 1823, but resigned his lectureship in that year, and his fellowship in the year following. For some time he acted as tutor. He acted as moderator in 1822, 1823, and 1826, and as examiner in 1824 and 1827. He was also a fellow of the Cambridge Philosophical Society and of the Royal Astronomical Society, and published several mathematical works. These two volumes on algebra and differential calculus are uniformly bound in contemporary full leather boards with gold titling and designs with four raised bands on the spines. The cases of the book are in very good condition with some expected scuffing to the leather on the boards and a little wear to the titling and decoration on the spines. The volume on Algebra has a small bit of damage to the leather on the top front spine corner and the volume on Calculus has thin splits of up to about 1/2" on the top and bottom of the front spine edge and bottom corner of the rear spine edge. The contents are tight and clean with some scattered but mostly light foxing. Pages 87 to 92 in the volume on Algebra and pages 33 to 40 and a few other pages in the volume on Calculus are a bit more heavily foxed and browned. There is an inscription dated 1935 on the front fixed endpaper of both volumes. PLEASE NOTE: These are heavyish and scarce volumes and extra postage will apply to cover tracked shipping.
