Ellie Is Learning Her Growing Self is a tender, reassuring children’s story about what it feels like to grow on the inside—when emotions change, friendships shift, and the world suddenly feels a little bigger than it used to.
Ellie is an elephant who is beginning to notice herself in new ways. Some days, she feels proud and capable. Other days, she feels unsure, left out, or overwhelmed by feelings she can’t quite name. At school, Ellie wonders where she fits. At home, she notices that some toys no longer feel right, that her thoughts are changing, and that growing doesn’t always feel exciting—it can feel confusing, lonely, or even a little scary.
Through gentle moments at school, quiet evenings at home, thoughtful conversations, and reflective pauses, Ellie begins to understand something important: growing isn’t about rushing ahead or leaving parts of herself behind. It’s about noticing, honoring feelings, and learning how to take care of her heart as it changes.
As Ellie learns about her growing self, she discovers that it’s okay to feel more than one thing at a time. It’s okay to outgrow certain things while still loving them. It’s okay to feel sad, uncertain, or left behind—and it’s okay to ask for comfort and connection when those feelings show up.
This story does not rush Ellie toward solutions. Instead, it offers children permission to slow down, reflect, and trust their own emotional experiences. Ellie’s journey gently models self-awareness, emotional expression, and self-trust in a way that feels safe, relatable, and deeply comforting.
With warm, painterly illustrations and emotionally grounded storytelling, Ellie Is Learning Her Growing Self supports children as they navigate:
Changing emotions
Social uncertainty and friendships
Early self-reflection and identity development
Letting go of things they’ve outgrown
Learning to listen to themselves
Written with care for sensitive children, this book is especially meaningful for kids who feel deeply, think a lot, or struggle to explain what’s happening inside them.
A special note for parents and caregivers offers reassurance and guidance, helping adults support children through emotional growth with patience, understanding, and connection.
Ellie Is Learning Her Growing Self is a comforting read for children—and for the grown-ups who love them—reminding us all that growing is not a race. It’s a process of becoming, one small, gentle step at a time.
