Paperback. In a world where the lights went out and never came back, one man carries the only thing worth keeping.Kale Dryer had everything until a drugged stranger took it away in two gunshots. As the woman he loves dies in his arms on a dead city street, she uses her final breath to ask him for something almost impossible in a world gone feral.Be merciful.Shattered by grief, Kale buries her beneath an old oak tree and sets out across the war torn ruins of America with an AR-15, a Glock, and a promise he is not sure he can keep. The road ahead is ruled by wolves. Raiders who burn settlements. Warlords who trade in human suffering. Broken men who would kill him for the food on his back. But everywhere Kale goes, he hears her last word echoing in his skull. And one act of mercy at a time, he discovers that kindness in a brutal world is not weakness. It is the most defiant, most powerful force left on earth. From a starving old man at a stream, to a mute boy abandoned in the ruins, to an entire valley enslaved beneath a tyrant's boot, Kale's mercy begins to spread. It frees the captive. It redeems the killer. It heals the wounded. And it slowly, impossibly, begins to bring a dead world back toward the light.Yet the road has one final test waiting. A test that will ask Kale whether mercy can be shown even to the man who deserves it least. This item is printed on demand. In a world where the lights went out and never came back, one man carries the only thing worth keeping.
Kale Dryer had everything until a drugged stranger took it away in two gunshots. As the woman he loves dies in his arms on a dead city street, she uses her final breath to ask him for something almost impossible in a world gone feral.
Be merciful.
Shattered by grief, Kale buries her beneath an old oak tree and sets out across the war torn ruins of America with an AR-15, a Glock, and a promise he is not sure he can keep.
And it slowly, impossibly, begins to bring a dead world back toward the light.
Yet the road has one final test waiting.
A test that will ask Kale whether mercy can be shown even to the man who deserves it least.
