"English and Engineering" is a thoughtfully curated collection of essays designed to bridge the gap between technical proficiency and humanistic understanding for students in the engineering sciences. Edited by Frank Aydelotte, this volume serves as a pedagogical bridge, advocating for the vital importance of clear communication, logical thinking, and a broad cultural education within the framework of a technical curriculum.

The work explores the intersection of the liberal arts and the applied sciences, arguing that the mastery of the English language is not merely an academic exercise but a fundamental tool for the professional engineer. Through a series of insightful essays, the text examines how the study of literature and the practice of effective writing enhance an engineer's ability to articulate complex ideas, manage projects, and understand the social implications of their work. This collection provides a fascinating window into the early 20th-century movement to humanize technical education, emphasizing that the most successful engineers are those who can synthesize scientific rigor with the expressive power of the written word. It remains a significant historical document for those interested in the evolution of technical communication and the enduring value of interdisciplinary study.
