Hardcover, quarto size volume bound in genuine top-grain blue cowhide with raised spine stamped in gold and cover stampings and design by Daniel B. Bianchi and Selma Ordewer in 22kt gold. 330 pages. All edges gilt. Additional refinements include bound in silk ribbon marker and specially commissioned marbled end-papers by Richard J. Wolfe. Illustrated with numerous full page plates, including colored drawings of the brain and black and white engravings of the nervous system, several being fold-out Special limited facsimile edition published for The Classics of Medicine Library, 1982, of the first editions originally published between 1802 and 1829. A quality limited edition facsimile of these early 19th-century illustrated works. Bell was a Scottish surgeon and anatomist, best known for his work in neurology. Some of his most significant findings were the discovery of the difference between sensory nerves and motor nerves in the spinal cord and his understanding and description of Bell's palsy. No previous ownership marks. A clean, fresh unmarked and unread like new copy. As new.
