Paperback. "Essentials of Civilization: A Study in Social Values" is a profound sociological inquiry into the foundational elements that sustain and advance human society. The work explores the intricate relationship between social values and the organized structures of civilization, identifying the fundamental needs of the community. Thomas Jesse Jones examines how health, sanitation, economic stability, recreational opportunities, and spiritual development converge to create a functional and progressive social order. The text serves as a systematic study of the social forces that shape human interaction and institutional growth. Jones emphasizes the importance of understanding community life through the lens of specific social values, arguing that the true measure of a civilization lies in its ability to meet the essential requirements of its members. By categorizing these essentials, the book provides a framework for evaluating social progress and identifying the pathways toward more effective social organization. A significant contribution to early 20th-century social science, "Essentials of Civilization: A Study in Social Values" offers timeless insights into the dynamics of social change and the persistent challenges of community welfare. It remains a valuable resource for those interested in the history of sociology, social work, and the philosophical underpinnings of modern society. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
