WILLIAM F. MAY is the Cary M. Maguire University Professor of Ethics, Southern Methodist University, where he also served as founding director of the Maguire Center. A former president of the American Academy of Religion, he is a Founding Fellow of The Hastings Center. He is the author of several books including The Patient’s Ordeal. A. LEWIS SOENS, JR., is professor emeritus of English at Notre Dame. A Fulbright Scholar, he is editor ofAbstracts of English Studies and the author of several books.
