Riassunto

Etwas zur�ckhaltend wurde 1982 geschrieben, als der Komponist Student an der Universit�t von Durham war. Das St�ck geriet in Vergessenheit, bis MacMillan 2009 feststellte, dass viele der darin enthaltenen Ideen aktuell und relevant f�r sein j�ngstes Werk zu sein schienen. Der Titel stammt von Wagners Angabe f�r die letzten Seiten von G�tterd�mmerung, und das Werk spiegelt ein anhaltendes Interesse an diesem Komponisten wider, das sich seither an verschiedenen Stellen in MacMillans Werk niedergeschlagen hat. Anspielungen auf Motive aus Der Ring des Nibelungen sind nie weit entfernt. Das Werk endet mit einer zaghaften und spannungsgeladenen Coda, in der noch Anspielungen in Richtung der finalen Einweihungsszene des Ring zu h�ren sind. Schwierigkeitsgrad: 4-5
