Chapter One
Book OneAdam didn't know,
Eve wouldn't tell,
Abel has cancer.
Remember for the moment
The Adam and the Eve,
The young and the perfect
Basking in the sun.
What did they want?
When they awoke before dawn,
Shivering and shaking,
Touching yet quivering.
A calm touch to reassure
Beauty and goodness slipping,
Alone but together.
Afraid to face,
Any truth.
Where does the light end?
Where does the black begin?
Seeing only the narrow truth
Told to them.
Fruit of the womb
Must be eaten first
Before the seed is planted.
The cock crows,
The wind blows,
How quiet it becomes
Right before dawn!
Eat me,
The animal cried,
Was it serpent and swan?
Nor lizard or varmint;
It begged.
Eve cried,
As she looked into a crystal pond.
Was it fear?
No, she saw how a ripple wrinkles
The countenance.
Oppression, Suppression, Depression?
Eve cried for her fear;
And bit into her flesh,
Ruby red and raw;
She bled.
Eve cried
And screamed,
In pain yet joy,
She laughed and smugged
And became woman.
And sensed
And smelled woman!
No longer an appendage
Or accessory
But a woman!
Determined,
Yet alone,
The decision is clear.
The temptation tempting
Tantalizing truth.
Don't
Why not?
I am thy Lord thy God!
You must fear me.
You must quiver and humble thyself.
You must be servile to man.
You are Adam's appendage,
His bandage.
Eve laughed,
Then giggled;
And was pretty and girlish,
And stylish and demure.
Fear go away!
Come back another day.
Book Two
How black it is,
Right before dawn.
Twinkling stars burning bright.
White light.
Eve crept,
And cried,
So afraid and alone.
Afraid of being woman
When all there was, is man.
Being the quiet,
And hurt,
The bleeding animal
Caught at bay,
She wept.
Adam didn't stir,
Lying and exposed,
The masculine scent
Is present and strong.
The body is a rock,
Hard and beautiful,
Before age creeps on.
The penis is an asp!
Curving, whirling upward,
It creeps.
Strongest when the man is in deep sleep.
The Arab or the Jewess,
Who is blessed more?
Whose books are holier?
Neither has cried more tears.
The woman descended on the man.
The Arab, the Jew
Kill each other too.
Book Three
The moon aglow,
The wind blows,
Adam exploded
Into a million billion souls
And understood man's goal.
The night flower blooms,
The wind spells gloom,
But the glow and warmth
Still burns bright.
Light begins breaking,
Another morning yet;
Filled with storm clouds.
Storm, torn:
Rain, pain:
Hurricane, Hurricane:
Go away
Come back,
Driven back,
Another day!
Book Four
Paradise lost
Or paradise gained?
Adam's salvation was leaving the garden,
Expanding his horizons,
Seeing the world.
No angel barred their way
Not Michael,
Nor Gabriel.
Adam and Eve left
Because they wanted to.
All the world has beauty
From Tigris Euphrates Valley,
To Gobi Desert,
Back along White Nile River,
To Stonehenge sunrise.
Eve grew weary
Heavy with child,
She paused and rested and remissed.
This Adam, why he wanders so,
Like a hungry man experiencing
His first meal.
With every new jungle,
Mountain,
Desert,
And Ocean.
What is a home?
Or a farm?
But a piece of earth
You claim,
And claim for your son's son.
Birds feather their nests.
Beavers build dams.
Beasts stalk in dens and lairs.
Eve dreamt:
Villae,
Insulae,
Manors,
Castles,
Palaces,
A humble house to call her home.
Eve saw the valley.
The valley of kings,
To raise pharaohs;
And would go no further.
Adam balked
And conceded.
Birds scream in the wind,
Cats run and hid,
Dogs growl to protect.
Adam and Eve carved
A niche
To call Home.
Book Five
The valley of kings
Is the fitting home for our first parents.
Every valley,
Every speck of dirt
Is home
For royalty.
Sirens scare.
Piercing sounds in the night.
Eve screamed and screamed!
For her first born is arriving.
Black Night,
Winds howl,
White wolves growl,
Cain stuck his head into the world,
And the spider spins its web.
Cain eyes are black,
Onyx shining,
His soul his own.
Little pearl-edged hands
Grasping at his father's face.
But the scenario continues,
Eve moans groans.
A birth canal not yet emptied
Another child works its way to life!
The sun is rising,
The birds chirp sweetly,
Abel is coming,
Morning glories bloom,
Another new baby.
Adam helps his wife.
This child must be born!
He sweats,
And cries for his baby to be borne.
He curses,
He cries,
And damns.
At last his effort is rewarded,
His second new son,
Yet so different.
It is the reincarnation
Of its mother.
The face, the eyes, the sweet smile.
Adam rejoiced;
My Eve is now born a Man!
Book Six
Children play
Childhood games
Let's pretend.
So it was with our first brothers,
The games Cain and Abel played,
Are fantasy excelled.
But Cain first sensed
His brother's affliction.
Abel could not keep up
With his brother's physical fun.
Yet they played,
In fields covered with buttercups;
Loving, lavishing, licking life,
And held each other.
What did Cain feel
Towards Abel?
His father's favorite
His mother's mirrored image,
His brother blessed with illness.
How strange
Birth can be!
Two fall from the womb at the same time;
Why is one the evil
And the other good?
Cain was constantly lectured;
And beaten.
He is the product of sin,
His mother's carnal craving.
A night long ago
Now distorted in time:
The reason of lost paradise.
Cain knew no better,
What was told to him;
He had no choice but believe.
A sponge absorbs all tears,
A rag cleans the dirt,
A mop scrubs floors clean,
Rugs lie beneath the feet.
No wonder Cain and Abel games'
Perversed,
Perverted,
Persisted.
Two children in glorious fun!
Secrets shared,
Let's pretend.
Little boys pretend,
Will it ever end!
Book Seven
Innocence lost,
And never regained,
Two young brothers
Made such a pact.
Cain knew Abel would not live.
Cantankerous cancer,
Slow snaky sickness.
Cain wanted Abel
To be the good.
The game devised did such a trick,
It fooled their parents.
Let's pretend!
Smash china, Abel,
Cain encouraged,
Tear apart sacred fabrics.
Destroy to your heart's delight.
Cain will take the blame!
Abel laughed,
The pain now lessened;
And the fun began again.
Look Adam,
Look Eve,
What Cain has done,
Abel chided;
And hid his secret smile.
Poor shocked parents
How evil Cain has become!
Thank goodness for our Abel,
The son who only shines.
Abel watched,
Cain's canings,
The slaps,
And indignations,
And his pain lessened.
Abel licked Cain's wounds;
And dried his tears,
Dearest brother, he implored,
Games played:
Let's pretend even more!
Cain wept,
Then laughed.
How much fun,
My brother loves me now.
I pray he will never go away!
Pain ... Pain stay here today,
Because I don't want another day,
I don't want the other way!
Book Eight
Are sons really their father's toy soldiers?
Little people to act out adults' games;
Told never to be children;
Aged before time,
Too serious and aware.
Cain's offering
Was in despair.
Pecunia:
Begging God for one small favor,
A grand stand at the age of twelve.
Please Lord,
Let me be my brother;
And my brother, me.
That is all I want to be;
Lying in tears and blood no more.
The next morning Cain awoke;
His offering was no good.
A mind still trapped in his body;
The grand gesture failed;
Cain learned humility.
Secret gardens
Are hidden in one's heart.
Cain and Abel gained
The paradise their parents lost;
Peace was theirs.
Gardens full of flowers,
Spring rains bring in showers.
Book Nine
The drama continues:
Cain humbly understood,
The blessed.
Patiently and quietly,
He served.
Introversion.
Friendless.
Three long years,
He read to Abel
In coma,
In pain,
A living dead Angel.
Books are treasures:
Homer's tales,
With two boys on a Mississippi River raft,
Love's Labour Lost,
And a broken glass animal zoo.
Cain cared little
If Abel heard or not.
Darvon blocks the senses.
Cain's love knew nothing else;
Abel is his brother.
Cain looked upon Abel,
Every day;
The room they shared,
Cain's beautiful bed,
And Abel's sacred crib;
Cain's love intensified.
When will my brother rest,
Cain prayed,
He is no longer alive!
We no longer can spend countless hours,
Gazing into each other's eyes.
I am alone.
Abel is no longer alive.
These chemicals,
Herbs,
Pills,
Only keep him in pain.
Cain prayed in Abel's pain,
Tears only in the wet rain.
Book Ten
On a sunny Virgo day
Cain returned home.
Deserted.
Adam in the city of St. Francis,
Or the one named after the Angels.
Far away—
Servants have run away;
Nursemaids gone;
Eve drunk out of her mind.
Abel is dead!
Cain was the son
Who prepared his twin,
Washing,
Anointing.
This is not my brother, Cain thought;
He died a long time ago.
Only this rotten body,
Covered with sores
Exists.
Abel is finally at rest.
These foolish people don't know!
This is a time for celebration,
Not grief,
Nor anguish.
Suddenly Cain is full of joy,
Merriment.
A heavy veil of tears is gone.
Why cry when the death
Freed both your souls.
Cain gathered his brothers and sister
And made them laugh not cry.
Little did Cain know
His joy
Is short lived.
The danse macabre has only begun,
Wait and see what becomes.
Book Eleven
Adam returned
To find his favorite son unalive;
His children laughing and giggling;
Eve drunk out of her mind;
And exploded.
Damnation:
Guilt:
And fear, made Adam afraid of his own mortality.
His guts exploded.
Rushed to his surgeons,
Most of his stomach removed,
He almost died.
Cain prayed for his father,
As a fourteen-year-old son should.
His brother less than a week dead;
And his father dying in front of his eyes;
Eve still shaking with all her fears.
Do tragedies always happen
Thrice?
Or threes, the saying goes;
Less than a week
Out of intensive care,
Adam's God died.
When your father's father dies,
Men change.
No longer a daddy to beg favors from,
Nor give small pleasures to.
It is very hard,
When you can no longer be a man
To another man.
A father who you call your creator.
Adam was drugged,
Eve went to the God burial.
She was not there
To help
Cain.
No one was there
To help.
What happened happens.
The love-hate between a father and a son;
It is told by no one.
