What happens when you lose jobs, struggle in business, experience disappointment in marriage lose friendships feel rejected, and even begin to wonder whether your prayers are being heard?
For years, Judith looked at the painful chapters of her life and quietly asked herself one question: "Am I a failure?"
She had dreamed of a happy and united family. She wanted to be a loving wife, a good mother, and a woman who could build a stable life for herself and her children. She gave much of herself to her marriage and family, often putting her own needs aside. Bu the marriage she had hoped for became a source of pain and disappointment.
As the years passed, other areas of her life also became difficult.
After completing her Secretarial Course, Judith worked hard to find employment. She accepted opportunities when they came, worked with dedication, and tried repeatedly to build a career. Yet some jobs ended because of difficult circumstances, pressure, or environments she struggled to remain in. Each job loss affected her confidence and made her question herself.
Then came business.
She invested her savings, opened a shop, and later started a small hotel. For a while, things seemed to be working. Customers came, sales improved, and she began to believe that perhaps she had finally found something she could build. But circumstances changed. Businesses that had once given her hope eventually closed. She watched money, effort, plans, and dreams disappear.
And once again, she wondered:
"Maybe I am the problem. Maybe I am a failure."
The pain did not end there.
The friendships she valued eventually ended. People she trusted disappointed her. Someone she considered a close friend became distant, and Judith found herself questioning whether she could trust people again. Instead of continuing to surround herself with relationships that brought her pain, she chose solitude and began learning the difference between being alone and being lonely.
Even her faith went through a difficult season.
After moving between churches and fellowships, Judith eventually found herself withdrawing from regular attendance. She had prayed, hoped, waited, and sometimes felt a though her prayers were going unanswered. At times, she felt rejected and discouraged. Her faith had not disappeared, but she was tired, and she did not always understand what God was doing.
Through all these experiences, one painful thought followed her:
"I am a failure."
But slowly, Judith began to discover the difference between failing at something and being a failure.
She began looking at her life differently.
Yes, some relationships had failed. Some jobs had ended. Some businesses had closed. Some friendships had been lost. Some decisions could have been different. There were moments when she stayed too long, trusted too quickly, or hoped for things that did not happen.
But those things were only chapters of her story.
They were not her identity.
She was still a mother who had sacrificed for her children. She was still a woman who had worked, tried, started again, and refused to completely give up. She had gained skills and experience through her jobs and businesses. She had survived painful seasons. She had continued to pray. And eventually, she discovered something unexpected in the middle of her struggle - writing.
Her books became more than words on page. Writing became a place where she could process her pain, tell her story, and turn difficult experiences into lessons. It became part of her healing.
