Paperback. "The first act of every ruler is to pass judgment on those who came before. Only then does the ruler mark the way forward." "But who can judge any man, let alone Maius?"Prince Samuel is poised to take the throne and lead his people into a new era of peace. But a new king is crowned only after he passes judgment on his predecessor-and King Maius' reign was the most controversial in Testum's long history. When Samuel chooses to write and read aloud the chronicle of his predecessor, he finds himself and the kingdom on the brink of chaos. The scrolls begin with Maius' early life during the age of the wicked Altmen kings. What begins as a tale of love and simplicity becomes a grand saga of loss, intrigue, mysterious peoples and mythical powers. Samuel's revelations both surprise and outrage the people, and the temple crowd teeters on the edge of rebellion. Meanwhile, ambitious factions seize on the chance to pass their own judgment-on Maius, and on Samuel himself. The Books of Maius, Part I: The Fall is the inaugural installment of an eight-part epic tragedy for mature readers. If you enjoy layered fantasy that grapples with good and evil, judgment and forgiveness, power, identity, and the nature of storytelling, then join the temple crowds and attend to the rites of succession!
