The Directory was one of the earliest publications of Nevada Territory. At the time of this 1962 edition, only six copies of the original directory existed, and all but two were located in institutional libraries. Featured in the 1962 edition are facsimile advertisements, many of which promote general stores and shipping companies, that were in the original edition. A concise but informative Introduction by Richard Lingenfelter sheds light on the history of the First Nevada Territory directory (such as the financing of the publication project and background information about its compiler, J. Wells Kelly) and includes a bibliography of other Nevada directories. Following the First Nevada Territory directory is a reprint of Henry De Groot's Sketches of the Washoe Silver Mines, a twenty-four-page pamphlet that actually focuses more on the outlying mines in the region from Mono Lake to Honey Lake.
