Eleven-year-old Samuel Maxwell made a promise to a girl named Abigail—but before he could keep it, his family moved away. Now, six years later, as Samuel begins his junior year at a new high school, the promise still lingers in the back of his mind.
Walking with a limp since childhood and weighed down by self-doubt, Samuel finds himself unexpectedly welcomed by a group of quirky outcasts who call themselves The Untouchables. There's Claire, a thirteen-year-old genius; Binky, who lives with Tourette syndrome and often blurts out wild remarks; Zero and Booker, masters of chess and board games; Shmoo, the AV club wizard; and Rosie, the goth girl who leads them all with fierce determination.
Samuel slowly finds his place among them—but high school isn’t without its challenges. He makes an enemy in the school’s star quarterback, yet finds a surprising friend in a varsity wrestler who encourages him to join the wrestling team.
Meanwhile, something sinister is happening. Girls at the school are vanishing, and Rosie is determined to uncover the truth. With the help of her crew—and Samuel—she sets out to catch whoever is behind it.
What follows is a thrilling adventure packed with unforgettable characters, clever twists, tense moments, and touches of humor. There’s struggle, friendship, strict teachers, danger, and ultimately, hope.
A compelling story for readers 13 and up—filled with heart, mystery, and the kind of underdog triumphs that stay with you long after the last page.
