Neuware - 'The Foundation' by Frederick P. Keppel offers a definitive exploration of the philanthropic foundation and its burgeoning role within the American social and educational landscape. Written during a transformative era for charitable institutions, this work provides a detailed examination of how private wealth is organized and directed toward public benefit. Keppel, drawing on his extensive professional experience, analyzes the administrative structures, historical development, and the profound societal influence these entities wield. The text delves into the philosophies guiding large-scale giving, the relationship between foundations and the institutions they support, and the evolving standards of accountability and social responsibility. By addressing both the potential and the challenges inherent in the foundation model, Keppel offers readers a comprehensive look at how these organizations became foundational pillars of research, education, and social reform. 'The Foundation' remains a significant resource for understanding the roots of modern philanthropy and the enduring impact of systematic charitable investment on the progress of civilization. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
