11th edition, Corrected and Much Improved by the Author. Hardback in leather binding. Book size - c. 6.75 x 4 inches, pp. viii + 451 ( + 4 - duplicate preface bound in at the back). Book condition - Good ; front flyleaf missing, preliminaries quite dusty but diminishing into the test of the textblock, ink inscription inside the front board ( "Miss C Bishop, Borth Dec 8th 1812 GMB" ) , some pages with corners creased, one section starting but secure, inner hinges split but boards secure, binding firm ; full leather (sheepskin ? ) on the boards and replacement leather spine pieice with paper title label ; corners show wear with loss of leather and are a bit bent but firm, board edges intact, back with some marking but in good condition, spine is an obvious replacement which has been competently, though by no means expertly, done, spine ends show some loss, paper label a later replacment with some staining, front with no real marks and in good condition. Please see the photos for indications of condition and contents. Nicolas Wanostrocht (1745 1812), who is believed to have been of Belgian origin, came over to England, after some residence in France, about 1780, and was appointed French tutor in the family of Henry second earl Bathurst . A few years after his arrival he founded a school known as the Alfred House Academy near Camberwell Green, . Among his numerous compilations the most noteworthy are A Practical Grammar of the French Language , ( Wanostrocht was also an English amateur "gentleman" cricketer. known by his pseudonym Nicholas Felix.
