Il volume accompagna la mostra Belle Haleine dell’artista tedesco Georg Baselitz (1938) - figura di spicco nel mondo dell’arte contemporanea - ospitata nella splendida cornice della Galleria degli Antichi di Sabbioneta (Mantova), la Città Ideale fondata da Vespasiano Gonzaga Colonna. Fra le opere presentate - scelte fra le più significative del suo percorso artistico - spiccano imponenti sculture, grandi dipinti su tela, nonché le dieci provocatorie incisioni intitolate collettivamente Belle Haleine in omaggio a Marcel Duchamp, artista a cui Baselitz - in modo provocatorio - fa spesso riferimento nella sua opera, ed esposte per la prima volta nel 1963. Il volume offre un’ampia visione della poliedricità del pioniere dell’arte neo-espressionista, il cui tratto distintivo è quello di riprodurre le figure a testa in giù.

This volume accompanies the exhibition Belle Haleine by German artist Georg Baselitz (1938) - a leading figure in the world of contemporary art - hosted in the splendid setting of the Galleria degli Antichi in Sabbioneta (Mantua), the Ideal City founded by Vespasiano Gonzaga Colonna.

Among the works presented - chosen from among the most significant in his artistic career - are imposing sculptures, large paintings on canvas, and the ten provocative engravings collectively entitled Belle Haleine in homage to Marcel Duchamp, an artist to whom Baselitz - provocatively - often refers in his work, and first exhibited in 1963.

The volume offers a broad view of the multifaceted nature of the pioneer of neo-expressionist art, whose hallmark is to reproduce figures "upside down".
