Be careful what you ask a machine to fix.

Eleven-year-old Oliver Baldwin thought cleaning out his great-grandmother’s house would be boring. That is, until he discovered the "Correction Contraption"—a secret machine hidden in the wall that promises to mend mistakes.

But magic has a strict rule: Equivalent Exchange. To fix one thing, it must steal from another.

• It fixes a lamp... by stealing the shoelaces.
• It repairs a chipped tooth... by eating the bathroom tile.
• It turns a squeaky wheelchair into a sled... by devouring the staircase.

Now, with a real estate photographer arriving in just hours, Oliver’s attempt to fix the house has spiraled into disaster. He must outsmart the machine before the house—and his secrets—crumble into a pile of rubble.
