8vo 8" - 9" tall; 234 pages. Very Good+. The first american edition containing both "The Great God Pan" and "the Inmost Light". Now considered one of his most important works, but it caused a scandal on its release, hurting Machen reputation as an author at the time. It was called degenerate mostly due to the sexuel content. Beginning in the 1920's his work was critically re-evaluated and is now considered a classic of horror. The novella influence the work of writer like Bram Stoker, H. P. Lovecraft and Stephen King, who referred to it as "one of the best horror stories ever written. Maybe the best in the English language." This copy about VG+ Some staining to boards and edges, but with no serious defects. Dealer note on front flyleaf, internally clean and in NF or better condition.
