Paperback. The moment your agent self-modifies, you lose the constitution. This is the structural fear that has kept agentic-AI dev loops from sealing in 2026. Operator-defined config drifts to platform defaults; proposal mechanics dissolve into configuration drift; constitutional boundaries become advisory rather than structural; drift safeguards become observability dashboards rather than enforcement. The Harness That Builds Itself - Under Human Witness is Volume 3 of Building the Agentic Harness - the deep-dive companion volume. Built around four structural commitments - operator-defined role configuration (blank-platform pattern with operator-authored roles specifications), proposal mechanics (5-step structural sequence with default-deny K2 + cross-role veto), the hard constitutional boundary (3-layer structural enforcement of constitutional invariants - classifier + auto-flow + consensus), advanced loop patterns (multi-mandate handoff + post-event monitoring + federation propagation), and the drift safeguard at depth (Stillpoint Synod + Gap Register+ cross-generational substrate-constancy verification). For: senior developers, platform architects, constitutional-governance specialists, family-office technical principals, and the auditors who serve them. The architectural posture: Witness, not approval. The dev loop does not eliminate the operator; it makes operator authority structurally enforceable at every extension point. Every claim in this volume verifies against the sovereign-agent-starter reference implementation repository; six runnable demos ground the specialist-depth material. You will learn how to: Author operator-defined role_spec.yaml patterns the harness loads at boot (Charter-grounded, platform-prescribed nothing)Implement 5-step proposal mechanics with structural default-deny + cross-role vetoRecognize + structurally enforce the K1-K4 constitutional boundary (3-layer defense: classifier + auto-flow + P2 consensus)Extend the dev loop with advanced patterns (multi-mandate handoff + post-event monitoring + federation) without bypassing constitutional boundariesSchedule the Stillpoint Synod cadence with the Charter for cross-pattern drift detectionTrigger the constitutional ceremony pipeline for legitimate constitutional-surface modificationsImplement cross-generational substrate-constancy verification for inheritable harness operation Vol 3 of Building the Agentic Harness - the deep-dive companion.
The Harness That Builds Itself — Under Human Witness is Volume 3 of Building the Agentic Harness — the deep-dive companion volume. Built around four structural commitments — operator-defined role configuration (blank-platform pattern with operator-authored roles specifications), proposal mechanics (5-step structural sequence with default-deny K2 + cross-role veto), the hard constitutional boundary (3-layer structural enforcement of constitutional invariants — classifier + auto-flow + consensus), advanced loop patterns (multi-mandate handoff + post-event monitoring + federation propagation), and the drift safeguard at depth (Stillpoint Synod + Gap Register+ cross-generational substrate-constancy verification).
You will learn how to:
- Author operator-defined role_spec.yaml patterns the harness loads at boot (Charter-grounded, platform-prescribed nothing)
- Implement 5-step proposal mechanics with structural default-deny + cross-role veto
- Recognize + structurally enforce the K1-K4 constitutional boundary (3-layer defense: classifier + auto-flow + P2 consensus)
- Extend the dev loop with advanced patterns (multi-mandate handoff + post-event monitoring + federation) without bypassing constitutional boundaries
- Schedule the Stillpoint Synod cadence with the Charter for cross-pattern drift detection
- Trigger the constitutional ceremony pipeline for legitimate constitutional-surface modifications
- Implement cross-generational substrate-constancy verification for inheritable harness operation
Vol 3 of Building the Agentic Harness — the deep-dive companion. Reading order: Vol 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 → 5. Forward pointer loops out to the Atrium UX implementation arc (Vol 3 sealing structurally gates the live-runtime cutover). Witness, not approval.
