A sophisticated and engaging introduction to modern Hebrew literature for advanced students.

The forty-five selections are arranged around general topics: love, loneliness, the Holocaust, childhood, parents and children, Israel, and humor. All were made with an English-speaking college student in mind. This anthology is especially apt for classes using Level 2 or Level 3 of the Hebrew: A Language Course series.

Includes selections from Arye (Lyova) Eliav, Amir Gilboa, Leah Goldberg, Ephraim Kishon, Abba Kovner, Aharaon Meged, Dan Pagis, Moshe Prager, Rahel Bluwstein, Menahem Talmi, Ben-Zion Tomer, Meir Wieseltier, and Natan Zach.

Thought provoking questions follow each selection along with a vocabulary list of unfamiliar words, terms, and cultural expressions. The book also includes brief English-language biographies of the authors and a comprehensive English/Hebrew dictionary covering all the vocabulary listed after each selection.
