xl, 205pp, many tables on tabbed pages, fold-out plate at front. 18x8, decorative green calf binding, Edges worn and rubbed, some surface loss on spine, binding cracking and some ancient tape repairs to the tabs, owner's name in ink on ffep. Hoppus was an early English surveyor who developed many techniques and skills for more accurate estimating of quantities required. His proposed unit "the Hoppus Cubic Foot" for estimating how much raw timber would be required for a specific volume of finished timber after processing and wastage, and was used in forestry until metrication (it was roughly 21% larger than a 'normal' cubic foot.There appear to be two John Smith versions, one from 1848 and one from 1861, each with identical pagination(WorldCat). There is no indication that this is a second impression or edition, so it assumed that it is the earlier version. Codice articolo 36937
