H. Shepard in coloured onlays, covers with gilt fillet borders, gilt edges, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, original cloth covers and spine bound in at end together with original pictorial endpapers when issued. First Deluxe edition. The character of Winnie-the-Pooh appeared first in the 38th poem of Milne's 1924 book "When We Were Very Young," originally published in Punch Magazine in February 1924. It was a Christmas Eve story in 1925, commissioned by the Evening News, where Winnie-the-Pooh made his first appearance under this name.
