Sturdily bound in the publisher's maroon cloth. The first edition of this book was published in 1940. It was reprinted in 1967 with a new introduction by P. W. Filby, Librarian and Assistant Director, Maryland Historical Society. This 1974 edition retains Filby's introduction which says, in part: "Passano is still the only record of its kind. It is undoubtedly the first work which should be used when Maryland genealogical research is undertaken, and it is invaluable for out-of-State researchers with Maryland family connections." The largest section (362 pages) is an A-Z list of some 20,000 Maryland family names with identification of the sources and locations of all records, publications and documents in which they appear. The book also includes sections on state records (deeds, historic papers, land records, marriages, rent rolls, wills, etc.); county courthouse records; church records (parish registers, baptisms, marriages, deaths, etc.); tombstone inscriptions; census lists; ships; passengers; directories; war records; and numerous other data sources.
