The simplicity of syntactic constructions and rules of a high, though often neglected, pedagogical value aids students in approaching more complex semantic issues. The author uses an interesting stylistic innovation. As prelude to the introduction of a new concept, he provides an informal commentary, often based on analogy, which is distinguished by the label a background story.
