Paperback. This is not a book about fixing your introversion. It is a book written by someone who stopped trying to.For most of his life, Vishal Shende was the quiet one. The boy who arrived early to every class so nobody would watch him walk in. The one who sat near the wall, who chose the longer route to avoid the crowded corridor, who took days off school with a medical excuse when the real reason was something he has never told anyone - until now. This is that book.In four parts, Shende traces exactly how a quiet person gets made - not born, not chosen, but built, slowly, through a specific set of childhood experiences that the people who called him shy, antisocial, or difficult never knew about. He then follows that quiet person through college, through a Master's degree in Sweden, through the gradual building of a life - three income streams, four books, a portfolio - that requires performing for no one. This is not a celebration of introversion. It is not a survival guide for living in an extrovert's world. It is something rarer - an honest, unflinching account of one specific life, written without apology, for the reader who has spent years wondering if something in them needs fixing.Nothing needs fixing. It never did.If you have ever been told you should socialise more, talk more, come out of your shell - this book was written for you.It is a book written by an introvert, to another. This is not a book about fixing your introversion. It is a book written by someone who stopped trying to.
For most of his life, Vishal Shende was the quiet one. The boy who arrived early to every class so nobody would watch him walk in. The one who sat near the wall, who chose the longer route to avoid the crowded corridor, who took days off school with a medical excuse when the real reason was something he has never told anyone — until now.
This is that book.
In four parts, Shende traces exactly how a quiet person gets made — not born, not chosen, but built, slowly, through a specific set of childhood experiences that the people who called him shy, antisocial, or difficult never knew about. He then follows that quiet person through college, through a Master's degree in Sweden, through the gradual building of a life — three income streams, four books, a portfolio — that requires performing for no one.
This is not a celebration of introversion. It is not a survival guide for living in an extrovert's world. It is something rarer — an honest, unflinching account of one specific life, written without apology, for the reader who has spent years wondering if something in them needs fixing.
Nothing needs fixing. It never did.
If you have ever been told you should socialise more, talk more, come out of your shell — this book was written for you.
It is a book written by an introvert, to another.
