Descrizione dell’articolo da parte del venditore

Good. Original dark blue cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Moderate rubbing and fading to cloth, with wear at spine ends and corners. Ex-library copy with Yale University donor notation and Baker University bookplate to front pastedown, along with a discarded library stamp. Evidence of bookplate removal to front free endpaper. Interior generally clean with light age toning. Binding remains sound and text block is secure. A classic early twentieth-century work in experimental physiology by German physiologist Max Verworn (1863–1921), whose research on cellular physiology, stimulation, and biological response influenced the development of modern physiology, neurology, and experimental biology. In this volume, Verworn examines the fundamental concept of irritability—the capacity of living matter to respond to stimuli—and explores its implications across plant and animal life. Illustrated with diagrams and figures throughout. An important contribution to the history of physiology and biological science, reflecting the era's efforts to establish a unified scientific understanding of life processes. The limited first printing of only 600 copies adds additional interest for collectors of early medical and scientific literature. Provenance includes a Yale University donor marking and subsequent placement in the library of Baker University. Carefully packed and shipped in a box. Shipped via USPS with tracking provided. International shipping available. Additional photographs available upon request. Please review photographs carefully, as they form part of the description. Returns accepted within the AbeBooks 30-day return window. SCI 1c.
