The book devotes a chapter to each of the world religions. All but one of the chapters are written by a member of that faith community, thus giving insiders' views into the theology, spirituality and religious practice of the faith. The introduction encourages respect and engagement with those of other faiths. It emphasises the cultural nature of religion, its importance to society and notes the rise of interest in the study of religious traditions in the face of contemporary geopolitics. It does not attempt to address these politics.

Dr Santanu K. Patro is Associate Professor in the Department of Religion at Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, India. Previously, he lectured at the Eastern Theological College. He has written and published a number of articles. He is a member of the Baptist Church.

Santanu K. Patro is Professor and Head of the Department of Religions in Gurukul Lutheran Theological College and Research Institute, Chennai, India. His areas of specialization are Hinduism and Womens Studies. He is the author of A Feminist Reading of Womanhood in Dark Kali Tradition (ISPCK, 2006). He is a member of the Baptist Church (Church of North India).
