A thread that weaves throughout this book is the dynamic within the imagery of a blood exchange transfusion.
This imagery is first found in the journey of the author, a psychologist and pastoral counselor. From birth through his 20s, the doctrines and teachings of Roman Catholicism and Protestantism poured into his mind. In his late 20s, he flushed out the entire deposit of the religion of Christianity, replacing it with Secular Humanism. He lived within the beliefs of Secular Humanism until they were no longer life-giving and became “waste blood” within his soul.
As he let Secular Humanism drain out of his soul, he discovered new “donor blood” that poured in as he drank deeply of the supposed heavenly elixir of New Age Spirituality. For 14 years he lived in this world, until he was invited to participate in flushing out New Age Spirituality and his entire old life, in exchange for a new life in Christ Jesus.
Dr. Day chose to accept this invitation, a choice that has turned out to be the turning point of his life and ministry. At 42 years of age, healing took hold as he allowed the Holy Spirit to begin flushing old life from his body, soul, and spirit. New life poured in, and continues to pour in as this exchange transfusion has become the core dynamic of his daily life and the ministry he calls Jesus Exchange Ministry.
The first five chapters are a summary of these many exchanges, setting the stage for the discoveries of the larger story of the Incarnation and Redemption, a story told in the seven chapters of PART II. These final chapters are the heart of the book, exploring the evidence for seeing the mission of Jesus Christ as a divinely designed and implemented exchange transfusion through which God saves, heals, and transforms. It is The Jesus Exchange.
If you are longing for more than a ticket-to-heaven Christianity, then this is a book you will want to read. You too can live the Exchanged Life that is in Jesus, and find the peace that surpasses all understanding.
_________
“Through his years of clinical practice, Dr. Bill Day has discovered that authentic healing comes not through wooden, mental assent to Christian doctrines but through fluid, spiritual attachment to God Himself. The Jesus Exchange ministry welcomes Christ’s own life into ours—His holiness in place of our sin, His blessing in exchange for our curse, His freedom for our captivity. I’m nourished and thrilled by every thought and experience of this divine exchange that Bill heralds so well.
While The Jesus Exchange isn’t a theological treatise, Dr. Day ably challenges the traditional, Western emphasis on Jesus’ death more than His life. Though I’m a traditionalist regarding substitutionary atonement, Bill’s writing stretches me, and inspires me to think expansively and to embrace the life-giving, saving work of Christ for all it means.” — Alan D. Wright, senior pastor of Reynolda Church (a multi-site congregation in NC), daily radio teacher heard on 400 stations nation-wide, and best-selling author of six books, including most recently The Power to Bless and Seeing as Jesus Sees.
“In The Jesus Exchange, Dr. Bill Day, a clinical psychologist, brings not only a unique perspective of his own transformation, but also has integrated his discoveries into his ministry and his theological reflections. He invites you to “dive into Jesus.” Are you longing to know and feel God’s love in a personal way? If so, then I invite you to read The Jesus Exchange. You will not be disappointed.” — Paul Leitzell, executive pastor, Oasis Church, Holly Springs, NC.
